Jeff presents his information in an easy to-understand format that follows the natural flow of learning. The "Introduction," "History," and "Types of Rebreathers" chapters lay out the basis of difference and development in open circuit SCUBA, the semi-closed rebreather, and the fully closed rebreather. Sections on physics and physiology follow. Scared yet? Don't be. These latter two chapters are designed to let any interested reader gain a good understanding of diving's effects. Chapters on theory and rebreather designs are also easy to understand, and leave you with an appreciation for the uses and limitations of rebreathers, as well as for the people who dive them. And the driver's seat chapters-"Preparing for the Dive," "Diving Techniques," "Post Dive Procedures," and "Long Term Maintenance"-give great information along with clear, concise instructions. Wondering what to do if there is a problem? No problem. Emergency Procedures" covers not only what to do if, but also spells out the recognition, and more importantly the avoidance, of most problems. The final two chapters cover travel with your rebreather and "Where To Go From Here," a reminder to keep your training current and dive within your limits.

(More customer reviews)My cookbook stash is really too low. I don't even have a basic Betty Crocker cookbook, how sad is that? And I'm not really the best at picking out new cookbooks to add to my shelf... or I wasn't until the Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook set the bar high for me. This very nice, hardcover book with glossy pages is full of everyday breakfast, brunch, and anytime recipes - basics like biscuits, buttermilk fried chicken, and split pea soup, and specialty dishes like baked truffled grits or coconut lemon curd cake. It's full of color photos, hints and tips, and step-by-step instructions that even I can't mess up. ;-)
So far my favorite recipe is the Blueberry Crumb Muffins. I made a batch of them one day and the next they were gone. And oh my word, SO good! They truly were the best muffins I have ever made, and were easy enough that I'll never feel that I need to go with a box mix again. In fact, just saying (or typing) "box mix" makes me feel like I'm cheating on these delicious muffins. YUM!

(More customer reviews)Ladies and gentlemen, this is the funniest and most beautiful tribute ever made to an author! I have never seen anything like this in centuries! I think that the basic idea of the whole project is strongly related with being an Alan Moore fan, which is a thing that a lot of the autohrs involved in the book share. But there's more to it: that means that even though every contribution is not perfect, neat and amazing, love, respect and passion are always granted in every inch of this work. Every artist/writer that has participated has done its best, even in a simple way, to say: Happy birthday Mr. Moore.
If you're expecting me to cite my favourite contributions you are wrong: too many and too beautiful, and right now I can only remeber one of those that Moore will appreciate more: Will Eisner's one!
In a few words: a must-read for all Moore's fan over the globe, buy it and you won't be disappointed.
P.S.: I was almost forgetting to say that in the end of the volume there is a complete bibliography, which can be considered a stand-alone motivation to buy it.

Barrett probes beneath the dancer's skin, and the trust and sense of freedom revealed in each photograph makes us feel as though we all have the ability to move in this way - alas, we do not. Tutu is about artistry and love and lust. It is a book about beauty. I defy anyone not to get stuck on page 99.

Her writing is plain and easy to understand and the artwork is delightfull. I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever wondered "I wonder how they do that", or "I wish I could make that". This is definately a mix between Little house on the Prairie and Martha Stewart. You wont be disapointed!

(More customer reviews)I first became aware of THE SOCIAL WORLD OF LUKE ACTS when I was studying scripture, but purchased it when I conducted a Bible Study based on Luke's Gospel knowing it would be an important addition to my collection of books. Since that time I've referred to it on many occasions because while it's written for a serious student or scholar, many of the articles put a human face on scripture study which by nature easily finds a way into pastoral ministry.
This volume is a collection of articles by scholars such as Jerome Neyrey, Bruce Malina, Douglas Oakman and Richard Rohrbaugh, to name a few, names well known in New Testament studies. The articles themselves focus primarily on the social science aspects of Luke and Acts. The articles illustrate different aspects of the social world of the author of Luke Acts which help us understand the role the Gospel played in that context and helps us place it in our day and age. Some of the articles I have found most helpful are Oakman's article on the country side in Luke Acts, Neyrey's article on meals in Luke's Gospel and his writings about the ancient world's understanding of personality. The articles fill a void in the basic historical-critical methods still very much in the forefront of scripture study but can often become somewhat dry and devoid of humanity. Though the articles focus on issues that arise in Luke-Acts, many of the articles can help in understanding the whole of the New Testament.
While the book could be used by anyone interested in a more in depth look at Luke and Acts, it's not a book that easily leads to spirituality or prayer as some books on scripture do. It is a well written book but one that is meant for more serious study and scholarly work and would be ideal for anyone conducting scripture study and adult education classes. It would also be helpful for preachers who are looking for something different fro a Sunday morning or churches involved in social justice ministries.
