I decided to take a chance on this book and I am glad I did. I would best describe this as a book of confessions - but instead of correspondences through letters, as has always been the traditional method, the author presents a more modern turn by setting the story up through the medium of email. The relationships of four people (I am guessing they are in their mid to late 20s) is revealed in very straightforward, frank detail as only email can. And there in lies the beauty: the letters back and forth are so intimate, through a medium that is normally so casual. But it works, somehow. I think because people (these characters included) tend to type what they feel, email lends itself to be less self-edited; so, when the friends and lovers in this book write back and forth we get a sense that the emotion is real. It is almost voyeuristic. (Which is also how it is described in it's description.)
Anyway, as I was reading these characters describe what they felt and how they lived their lives I was reminded what it was like to be that age. Still unsure what the future held, but sure there was a lot of time to figure it out. It rang true for me.
The greatest part of this book for me was the unique perspective I got from the male characters. You don't find many books with male characters that are honest and vulnerable, like they are in this book. It is less "locker room" talk and more "hopeless romantic" talk. That is the best way I can describe it.
I liked this book and would recommend it to anyone.
