Jam Amp Your Team, Rock Your Business Review

Honestly, once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. It is one of those rare books that flows so smoothly and easily that you just don't want to stop reading.
If you love rock n roll (and who doesn't?#, or have ever been in a band or dreamed of being in a band, you will be fascinated by the first-hand details of the inner-workings of one of the biggest and most respected bands to come out of the late 70's and 80's.
Having been a huge fan of the band, it was like living that time over again and seeing a whole different side of it besides the fame and fortune and seemingly non-stop party of it all. What seperates those who make it #and make a living at it) and those who don't is not purely being a virtuoso at your instrument; but rather a whole combination of things starting with hard work, drive and TEAMWORK. All of the same things that are necessary to running a successful business--whatever business it may be.
Being both a wanna-be-rocker and a fairly successful business owner myself, I have never come across a book that ties together all the things I love in such an interesting and entertaining way. And Jeff throws in a few one-liners that had me laughing out loud.
Buy the book, sit down in a comfy chair and get reading......you will be glad you did!

Praise for JAM!

"Breaking into the music business is difficult at best; sustaining success even more so. Jeff Carlisi is both a musician and a businessman, and he and Dan Lipson have penned an entertaining and extremely useful book. Read JAM!, and you should be blowing your competition off the stage in no time." —Terry Stewart, president and CEO, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum
"Jeff Carlisi's story is worth a book all by itself. But combine it with Dan Lipson's sound and practical business advice, and you've got a combination that's indispensable for any executive looking to make some noise of their own. Highly recommended."—Dave Sutton, founder and managing partner, TopRight Strategic Marketing, and coauthor, Enterprise Marketing Management
"We've all dreamed of standing on stage before a packed house of screaming fans. Jeff Carlisi has done it, and he and Dan Lipson have built a business dedicated to giving that experience to kids and executives alike. The two of them have crafted a business advice book unlike any other, one that will help you find your own spotlight."—Gary Byrd, president and CEO, Pratt Financial Services
"Bands that make great music do so with lots of practice, a keen sense of vision, creativity, and the ability within the group to listen and play parts. The same holds true in great organizations. Jeff and Dan understand this, and do a great job of communicating the magic that occurs when individuals within an organization tune up, tune in, and listen to each other playing their directed parts."—LARRY THOMAS, chairman emeritus, Guitar Center Inc.
"In the entertainment world, there's almost always a difference between the persona that you see and the real persona. Not with Jeff. He's the same guy on and off stage, and he's had his eyes wide open his whole career. He and Dan offer the kind of practical business advice that anyone can use. You'll learn a lot from Jeff's story."—John W. Mecom, Jr., former owner of the New Orleans Saints

The Complete Book of Preserves & Pickles: Jams, jellies, chutneys & relishes Review

The Complete Book of Preserves and Pickles: Jams, jellies, chutneys and relishes
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are some scrumptious recipes in this book. The photographs are lovely. The writing is clear. There are lots of recipes and ideas not found in American canning books and all the recipes include American measures. However, if you're a stickler for canning the way the U.S. government recommends, you will find many recipes un-usable . The author recommends not only hot water bath and pressure canning, but sealing jars in the oven, or just turning over jars to seal. However, these methods have been used *for certain types of recipes* for many years, so I feel fine using them.
You'll find information on how to preserve fruits with sugar and drying ("candied fruits"), preserving fruits in alcohol, plus lots of great recipes: jams, jellies, marmalade, butters, curds, "cheeses," pickles, chutneys, relishes, sauces, and more.

"My daughter loves these books in this series." As my daughter said," I can relate to what she is going through. It seems like Casey Smith is a real sixth grader." Linda Ellerbee is an exceptional writer! I would recommend it to any sixth grade parent to give to their child.

Silly and fun. Every child will love the story about poor Jonathan who couldn't clean his room thanks to the crowds of people leaving the subway station that was magically connected to it. The illustrations are wonderfully rendered.

Good Old-Fashioned Jams, Preserves and Chutneys Review

Good Old-Fashioned Jams, Preserves and Chutneys

A well organised, comprehensive coverage of the topic, thankfully without any American bias, so the units of measurement actually mean something. Clear, informative and attractive.
Unfortunately, I received (and was charged for) two copies when I wanted only one. This has happened before, which suggests either that the Amazon shopping cart / checkout process is cumbersome and deficient, or I am an internet luddite.

Jitterbug Jam (New York Times Best Illustrated Books (Awards)) Review

Jitterbug Jam (New York Times Best Illustrated Books (Awards))
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Alexis Deacon's distinctive artwork offers an impressive visual context for Jitterbug Jam, Barbara Jean Hicks' original story about Bobo, a young monster who is afraid of what is under his bed at night. Bobo is sure there is a boy lurking underneath his bed, with "pink skin and orange fur on his head where his horns should be". Bobo's brother chastises him for being a scaredy-cat; Bobo's grandpa, Boo-Dad, knows exactly how to scare the fearful creature away. Yet after being frightened for such a long time, Bobo considers taking matters into his own paws and discovering if the creature under the bed really is that terrible! A charming and wonderful story about how new friends could be just around the corner.
