(More customer reviews)A fantastic book of quotations, and the most comprehensive collection of humorous quotes I've yet to come across. The organization is excellent, with an adequate list of themes serving as the table of contents. Further aiding discovery of the perfect quote is an index of authors/sources, and a very well developed keyword index. Both of these supplemental indices are a bit confusing, but not overly so. They list the applicable theme and the numbered entry under that theme; there are no page numbers given. It's a bit confusing on the first few uses, after that it is simple.
The book is a fun, quick read as well, dense (with its relatively small print) with goodies from John Updike, Cheryl Tiegs, Henry Kissinger, Frank Zappa, George Foreman, P. J. O'Rourke, etc. I heartily recommend it.

The Bear Went Over the Mountain: A Novel (Owl Book) Review

(More customer reviews)There's so much truth about the publishing world in this drop-dead-funny satire that it's a wonder the publishing world ever published it!
Outrageous premise of a man who writes The Great American Novel, loses the manuscript in the woods, and becomes so depressed that he goes into hibernation and becomes beast-like. The flip side of the equation, the part that makes this book a dangerous one to read in bed beside a sleeping mate, is that the manuscript is found by a bear who manages to sell it on a trip to New York. The bear is courted by NY's best and finest celebs, and he impresses reviewers, agents, and editors with his hyper-intelligent and deeply moving monosyllabic grunts and one-word responses to interview questions.
But the parts that'll make your trying-to-sleep spouse want to kill you are the love scenes between the bear and the object of his affection, a 'fur-bearing woman,' (a lady who doesn't shave her legs).
Don't miss it. Buy two, and give one to your favorite quirky friend.

(More customer reviews)This book is really cool. It has cinemanga-ish adaptations of Billy and Mandy: "Tricycle of Terror", KND: "C.O.L.L.E.G.E.", Samurai Jack: "Jack and the Gangsters", and the first episode of Megas XLR.This may be something that I expected from TOKYOPOP, but that's okay.
And to make this book even cooler, they threw in a bonus DVD of that first Megas XLR episode, which is great. (Did you know the original title of that show was "Lowbrow" ?) I hope you'll enjoy this book as much as I did. And if you liked this, then you'll also like "Kids WB Jam-Packed Action", too.

Jam-Packed FoxTrot Review

(More customer reviews)To me, Foxtrot continues to be the most underrated comic strip going today. It has been the most consistently funny strip since Calvin & Hobbes as Jason Fox continues to be the funniest, most unpredictable kid in comics today. The latest Foxtrot Collection features strips culled from Orlando Bloom has Ruined Everything, My Dog Went Out Can I Have Another, and How Come I'm Always Luigi? Cartoonist Bill Amend keeps setting the bar higher and higher.
Jason is at his all-time best in this strip with several new quick-money schemes including making his own computer animated films and producing his own Christmas cards. Along the way he finds plenty of time to annoy sister Paige, especially with his pet Iganua Quincy. The sequence on the release of "Return of the King" is absolutely hilarious as Jason becomes upset when Paige looks forward to the film even more than he does...only because she wants to look at Orlando Bloom!
Peter has his usual failings in sports and on tests while he tries to eat everything in sight. Peter gets a job at a movie theater wearing a Garfield the cat costume to promote the film and becomes the subject of taunts from little kids.
Paige does her usual to avoid school work and try to get a boyfriend, all the while having to be constantly on guard against Jason's schemes to embarrass her, and usually failing. There's a great Halloween series where Paige and a friend get trapped a nerd's Halloween party.
In all the humor, there is one introspective moment when the family visits Washington DC and they see the Viet Nam memorial wall which was genuinely touching. But it's soon back to business as Jason tries to buy the Apollo 11 capsule and gets his dad in trouble with the Secret Service.
From beginning to end Jam-Packed Foxtrot is a first rate collection!
