The Authentic Leader: How Authority and Consensus Intertwine Review

I am an internal consultant and use this book as a guide in my practice. This book is a must if you are a manager of a business and want to create lasting change. It is easy to read and gives practical ways to go about making changes in your work place. I also like that the book is in story form which helps to illustrate how to do an incredibly difficult task. The author is a practitioner rather than simply a theorist so the book is grounded in experience. I highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed Kirk's book about the Loafer Principle. Finally, an engineer that gets "it". His easy going style (or is that Dude?) makes this an easy read. His observations are insightful and include examples that hit real close to home. This should be required reading for any engineer wanting to further his/her career! I would like to write more, but I have to slip on a new pair of shoes and start loafing.

As the album is fantastic to begin with, this book just adds to the enjoyment. Solid Nirvana tunes in a mellow set, the songs are great for the amateur guitarist, not difficult at all, and fun to play when you bring the friends over. The book makes it easy to emulate the man and his band.

Berlitz European Menu Reader: For Eating Out in over 25 Countries (Berlitz European Guides) Review

Berlitz European Menu Reader: For Eating Out in over 25 Countries (Berlitz European Guides)

One of the more vital parts of travelling involves eating, finding things that acceptable and appetising to the taste while abroad. Unless one wants to resort to pointing at things, it is best to learn some of the key words for cuisine (and, unless one wants to be surprised by certain ingredients that are unusual, it is best to know what words mean on the menu).
I've been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit, and I've often had phrase books to help me with some of the rudiments of languages, but have often found that phrase books are less helpful when it comes to menus, as not only does one generally need to know the basic words on menus, but also the regional and local methods of preparation, extra ingredients, and so forth, which are usually specialised enough not to make it into general phrase book listings.
That is where this book comes in handy. While it too will occasionally leave out various items (no one book can account for all local and regional variations), because it specialises in the words and phrases most likely to appear on menus, it comes in very handy.
There are sections for fourteen different languages in this small, pocket-sized edition: Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, Swedish, and a section on British-American comparisons.
Each section begins with an overview for basic pronunciation, as well as some useful expressions ('I'm hungry,' 'I'd like a table for,' etc.). Then there are lists of basic words for use while ordering, complaining (sometimes it is necessary!), settling the bill, and basic words for food types and adjectives for how things are prepared or served. Each section then includes an extended section on items of food and drink likely to be found on most menus in the particular region. The drink section in French contains a lot of information on wine (as one is likely to find that on the menus in France); the same section in German includes beer and wine; again that same section in Greek includes island and regional variations.
Even if one isn't travelling abroad, having this book will introduce one to a wide variation of types of food one might be able to find a ethnic restaurants more locally located.
Guten appetit!
Bon appetit!
Nauttikaa ateriastanne!

All I Need You To Say Review

All I Need You To Say

I usually don't do reviews, but since no one is saying anything about this book I thought I would start.
I decided to take a chance on this book and I am glad I did. I would best describe this as a book of confessions - but instead of correspondences through letters, as has always been the traditional method, the author presents a more modern turn by setting the story up through the medium of email. The relationships of four people (I am guessing they are in their mid to late 20s) is revealed in very straightforward, frank detail as only email can. And there in lies the beauty: the letters back and forth are so intimate, through a medium that is normally so casual. But it works, somehow. I think because people (these characters included) tend to type what they feel, email lends itself to be less self-edited; so, when the friends and lovers in this book write back and forth we get a sense that the emotion is real. It is almost voyeuristic. (Which is also how it is described in it's description.)
Anyway, as I was reading these characters describe what they felt and how they lived their lives I was reminded what it was like to be that age. Still unsure what the future held, but sure there was a lot of time to figure it out. It rang true for me.
The greatest part of this book for me was the unique perspective I got from the male characters. You don't find many books with male characters that are honest and vulnerable, like they are in this book. It is less "locker room" talk and more "hopeless romantic" talk. That is the best way I can describe it.
I liked this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Jay's luck suddenly changes when available Alana enters his cyberspace. Will Jay cast aside his fears of ruining everything with Morgan and tell her how he feels, or will he let her go and move on with Alana? Are two people in love sometimes better off just staying friends? As the four of them share personal thoughts and details about life and love over email, Chaz becomes a voyeur to it all. This novel reveals the intimate details of how men process their feelings, view their relationships and deal with love. It is an open door to a man's diary; how he writes to women, how he writes to other men and how he writes to lovers. Men will find comfort in reading their feelings reflected on the page and women will gain a new insight into men's perspectives.

Lonely Planet Indonesian Phrasebook, Fourth Edition Review

Lonely Planet Indonesian Phrasebook, Fourth Edition

If you are going to Indonesia and you feel you need a language guide, but you are not inclined to study the language by means of a graduated text book, you might like to consider this. You do get a very limited section on how the language works (ie grammar) but not enough to be really useful. What you do get of great value are subject grouped word lists and phrases that even include some of the colloquial language that you will encounter whilst on your travels.
However, I believe that this little book grows in usefulness if you are studying/have studied the basic language and you need something to enlarge your vocabulary and boost your communication power in Bahasa Indonesia. The word lists can be a great help in filling in the gaps that some basic courses might necessarily have left in vocaublary while aiming to teach you to use the structures of the language. In this way, this phrasebook can be very useful.
An Indonesian friend of mine who saw the cultural information in the book said that the author has definitely spent a lot of time in the country and has really done his homework! Some language courses completely neglect cultural information while they are concentrating on language (such as "Colloquial Indonesian" by Routledge) so in addition to the extra vocabulary, the cultural inforamtion you find here could really make a difference to your trip, as it is very easy for an unsuspecting westerner to make cultural gaffs and end up looking "sombong".
In short, if you just want a travel phrasebook and cultural guide, then this is a good choice.

This is a great book. But I am afraid too many coaches will be drilling and drilling and driling. Then forget they have to caoch anc organize a football team in less than 20 seconds. Take a few parts of this book that are good for you and try not to drill too much in youth football. There just is not enough time.
