Using tips from this book I now have the knowledge to determine if produce is fresh, ripe, and safe to eat. I am no longer having to dispose of fruits and vegetables as I am able to shop wisely and store them properly. We have saved alot of money as result. I am also very pleased to see healthy, natural recipes for treats that my kids love. I would recommend this book highly!

(More customer reviews)This was a disappointment for me, as I was hoping to learn about canning the harvest of my garden. It has very little to do with vegetables. It is primarily focused on fruit-based products. I think it would be a great book if that's what you're interested in. But, please choose another book if you're looking for tomato, bean, and basic vegetable recipes.

2011 Bruce Springsteen Wall Calendar Review

(More customer reviews)The Bruce Springsteen 2011 calendar is an improvement over the 2010 one (which I bought last year, as I am a huge Bruce fan and needed it for my office). Not taking anything away from Danny Clinch (whose work was in the 2010 calendar and has shot Bruce and Pearl Jam for years), as he is a fine photographer, but the 2010 calendar had a lot of artsy shots, whereas this 2011 calendar has more straightforward in-concert images that appear to have been taken at the Hyde Park concert in June, 2009 (this show was the one that was recently released on DVD/Blu-ray). The images for the 2011 calendar were taken by Jo Lopez, and are all pretty much straight-away action shots, most in color. Some of them, I dare say, might eventually approach iconic status as Bruce shots go - the one of him holding the "Rendevous" request sign (for the band to see, as part of his `request' portion of the show) is particularly striking, and the one taken from behind the stage as the band acknowledges the crowd is also excellent. Overall, this calendar is better than 2010's calendar, simply due to the action shots (and, it's printed on the usual high-quality paper stock).

(More customer reviews)I'm a strong intermediate player and I bought this book mainly for the backing tracks, not knowing what they were. The book provides music score and some narrative for each of the backing tracks on the CD. The tracks are best described as classic hard rock jams using many different progressions other than I, IV, VI which I appreciate. It opened my mind to other chord progressions.
Each track has a lead intro followed by about 2-3 minutes backing w/o lead guitar. The idea is that you can study the style of the lead and then improvise on your own. The narrative gives you some suggestions, presents some tabs of the scales that should be used and other hints to the soloist approach. I believe there about 10 tracks in total.
This is not for begginers, as you need to have a good understanding of theory, scales, arps and chords to get any pleasure out of this process. I found that I gravitated to about 3 of the songs and spent some time learning some of the riffs and chord progressions. There where a couple that I really like, edited out the solo and ripped them into MP3 and put them on my Tascam guitar trainer. That way, I can play them through my PA and jam along at full strength.
The tracks are of good quality. The book allows you to play along, understand some of the techniques that the soloist used in their version and then just do your own thing. I wish there where more books like this that had more tracks. Since it is a matter of individual preference how many tracks you will enjoy , more would be better. I find it a great way of learning better soloing technique without having the pressure of learning to play a particular riff perfectly for a cover song. I would gladly pay more for a complete volume of say 50 tacks with the same treatment. Instead I have been buying other books like this which has been hit or miss; some being ok and others just not to my taste. Cooking for Harry: A Low-Carbohydrate Novel Review

(More customer reviews)This book is clever, witty, and breezy, and I enjoyed it completely. The description of poor Harry and how he ends up on his low-carb diet, and all the changes it causes in his life is very funny, and the book moves along very quickly, so you pretty much laugh for a couple of hours, and then you are done. However, this book will make you hungry, and it is most unfair of the author to refer to PeanutBetter ButterBurst cookies and a terrific cauliflower salad and not provide recipes!
